Hello,

Oil Painters of America (OPA) invites your members to submit their work for the 2026 National Salon, a juried exhibition of small-format representational oil paintings.

This year’s exhibition will be hosted by Cassens Fine Art in Hamilton, Montana, and will be on view from July 31 through August 29, 2026. Approximately 180 exceptional works by Associate and Signature artists will be selected, showcasing excellence in draftsmanship, color, and composition while celebrating diversity in style and subject matter.

Over $20,000 in cash and merchandise awards will be presented.

Artists and guests are also invited to attend opening weekend events. The Opening Reception will take place on July 31 from 5:00–7:00 pm MDT, and Awards Judge James Crandall, OPAM, will present a live painting demonstration during the opening weekend.

We would greatly appreciate your help in sharing this opportunity with your members. Submissions are accepted online through June 12, 2026. Please note that OPA membership is required to enter, and applications are currently being accepted.

Encourage your members to apply today and be part of one of the premier showcases of representational oil painting.

View attached prospectus and submit entries here:

Come paint with us on June 27th, 2026!

Picture
UPDATE: This event is still ON, but watch this space for changes due to FIRE in the area. Should be fine by Saturday.

Paint out, Saturday June 27 8am-11am. Memory Grove (below the state capitol) 300 N Canyon Rd. Lunch right after at Avenues Proper (beat the rush) 376 8th Ave, Salt Lake City, UT 84103. Co-sponsored by Intermountain Society of Artists and Utah Watercolor Society. New artists and visitors welcome.

DETAILS and STATUS as of Monday 6/22

Fire Update & Park Status
  • Status: Memory Grove Park is 100% open and safe to visit.
  • The Damage: A minor 0.5-acre fire on Friday, June 19, affected only 15 trees on the lower east hillside.
  • Impact: The main scenic features (lawn, creek, chapel, fountain) were completely untouched. Expect minor charred areas or faint smoke odors on the far east side.
Top Painting Spots (Wagon-Friendly)
  • The South Lawn & Memorial House: Best for zero walking. Located right next to the parking area. Deep morning tree shade and historic brick architecture.
  • Peredra Fountain (Sunken Garden): A flat 2-minute walk up the central paved path. Features stone tiers, ivy, and deep cliffside shadows.
  • Meditation Chapel Pond & Creek: A flat 5-minute walk up the paved path. Ideal for those wanting to walk further. Features weeping willows, still pond reflections, and rushing water.
Parking & Logistics
  • Target Arrival Time: 7:30 AM – 8:15 AM this Saturday. Space fills up rapidly by 8:30 AM.
  • Primary Parking: Parallel street parking along Canyon Road or the small turnaround loop at the park gate.
  • Wagon Route: Stick to the main Canyon Road entrance. The asphalt paths are wide, smooth, and perfectly flat for pulling gear carts.
  • Late Arrival Overflow: Latecomers can park in the neighborhoods off 3rd Avenue/Spencer Court or the east lots of the Utah State Capitol.
  • Warning: The trails down from the State Capitol are steep and difficult for anyone hauling a gear wagon.
Restrooms
  • Location: The public, wheelchair-accessible restrooms are located near the Memorial House at the lower end of the park.
  • Tip: If you set up further up-canyon at the Chapel Pond, it is a flat 3-to-4-minute walk back down to use these facilities.
